Local Theatre Residency Recap March 31, 2024 – Posted in: Books, Edwin Fontanez, News, One Last Song
It finally saw the light of day! My new play adaptation of One Last Song for My Father was invited by the Kennedy Center to be workshopped as part of their Local Theatre Residency program, March 25-29, 2024.
It was a brief yet intense week of rehearsals culminating in a captive audience getting a first glimpse of this adaptation of my recently published memoir. In yet another iteration in my creative career, this was my first time as a playwright. Nothing prepared me for the furious process of daily rewrites, but as intimidating (and humbling) as the exercise was, nothing compared to the exhilarating feeling of watching a cast of talented actors breathe unexpected life into the words of my script. It was my first experience observing the marvelous synergy between the director and the actors. The experience served as an encouraging sign that, yes, One Last Song for My Father, is heading for the stage in the not-too-distant future!
